Electric Vehicles (EVs) are a relatively new concept in the world of the automotive industry. Instead of the conventional vehicles that are powered by petrel, diesel or natural gas engines, an EV is powered by a lithium based electric battery that needs to be charged every now and then. The vehicle once charged can run up to acertain distance before it requires to berecharged ELECTRIC VEHICLES (EVs) The EV technölogy has made huge strides in the past two decades and electric vehicles are considered to be the future of private and public transport-buses, taxis, ferries and trucks At present there are a lot of options of EVs available in the market: eg. Nissan Leaf, Ford Focus Electric, Tesla Model S and Chevrolet Volt among personal vehicles Trucks, buses and ferries are at an advanced stage of development and may soon be available for commercial use.
Advantages of an Electric Vehicle:
(1) No Gas Required; Electric vehicles are entirely charged by the electricity So, you don't need to buy any gas ever again. Thoughelectricity isn't free, an electric vehicle is farcheaper to run.
(2) Savings ;These vehicles can be fuelled for very cheap prices, and many new vehicles will offer great incentives like subsidies and lower taxes. Production costs are also likely to come down in the future.
(3) No Emisnions; Electric vehicles are 100 percent eco-friendly as they do not emit toxic gases or smoke in the environment.
(4) Popularity; EV's are growing in popularity and the market offers vehicles that are unique and full of choices.
(5) Safe to Drite Electric vehicles undergo same fitness and testing procedures as other fuel powered vehicles. In case an accident occurs, one can expect airbags to open up and electricity supply to be cut off from the battery. This can prevent you and other passengers in the vehicle from sounlun snouEN
(6) Cost Effectivr Earlier, owning an electric vehicle would cont a bomb But with more technological advancements, both cost and maintenance have gone down The mass production of batteries together with tax incentives has further brought down the cost, thus, making EVs much more cost effective.
(7) Low Mainteance; Electric vehicles run on electrically powered engines and hence there is no need to lubricate the engines They don't require any additives for better mileage and pollutien cuntrol EVS have tewer visits to the service station.
(8) Reduced Noise Pollution; Electric vehicles are much quieter and provide smooth drive with higher acceleration over long distances All that means very little nose pollution
(9) No depenidence on idepleting fosl hiels The reserves of fossil fuels are depleting very fast. EVs reduce our over dependence on oil.
Disadvantages ofan Electric Vehicle:
1 Recharge Ponts Electric fuelling stations are still in the development stages. Nota lot of places you go to on a daily basis will have electric fuelling stations for your vehicle any time soon. If you re on a long trip and run out of a charge. you may bestuck where vou are
2 Electricity Isn'tiree Electric vehicles canalso be a hassle on your energy bill il you re not considering the options carefully.
3. Short Drteing Range and Spend: Electric vehicles are limited by range and speed As of now, you just can't use them for longjourneys Longer Recharge Time: While it takes couple of minutes to fuel vour gasoline powered vehicle. an electric vehicle takes about 4-6 hours to get fully charged.
5 Silence as Disadtantage: Silence can be a bit of disadvantage as people like to hear noise of vehicles coming from behind. Anelectric vehicle is however silent and canlead to accidernts in some cases
6 Battery Replacement Depending on the type and usage of battery, batteries of almost all electric vehicles are required to be changed every 3-10 years
7 Unsuitable for Cities Facing Shortage of Pouer Cities already facing acute power shortage are not suitable for electric vehicles The consumption of more power would hamper their daily powernerds.
8 High Costs. At present EVsare very expensive and savings in the long run are negligible.
Conclusion: As research moves from wired to wireless charging, a few years from now electric cars will not have a huge battery with wired charger. They will be charged either at a charging station on a platform without a charger or while on the run. This charge while you drive technology will make the future clectric vehicles cost much less. They will also be much lighter in weight Their overall efficiency would be much better and would be more environment-friendly.
