(1)Corruption is rampant in all spheres of life in our society. Whether it was the CWG or purchase of army trucks or contracts of land mining or crores of rupees of black money stashed away in Swiss banks or the scams like NRHM, corruption is eating into the vitals of the country.

(2) And that is the reason why the common man on the street is afraid of the police, the sales tax office, the mining mafia and the land mafia, and so on. The most dangerous face of this menace is reflected in the dubious nexus between a corrupt politician and a corrupt bureaucrat. When the lawmakers become law breakers with impunity, who will save the country?

(3) The factors responsible for corruption are many. One, caste and nepotism have become the basis for distribution of patronage. Two, with common financial interest, emotion rather than reason dictates politics. Three, society tolerates amassing of wealth by any method, right or wrong. And finally, one's extreme attachment to one's family makes one often feel that one has to earn enough for children and grandchildren. (4)If democracy has to survive, the middle class value of probity in public life will have to be sustained. If each one of us refuses to offer bribes, however small, corrupt officials will have to back down eventually and this vicious circle can be broken.

भ्रष्टाचार का राक्षस

। हमारे समाज में जीवन के सभी क्षेत्रों में भ्रष्टाचार व्याप्त है। चाहे राष्ट्रमंडल खेल हो या सेना के ट्रकों की खरीद या भूमि खनन के ठेके या स्विस बैंकों में जमा करोड़ों रुपये का काला धन हो या एनआरएचएम जैसे घोटाले, भ्रष्टाचार देश के जीवन को खा रहा है।

और यही कारण है कि सड़क पर आम आदमी पुलिस, बिक्री कर कार्यालय, खनन माफिया और भू-माफिया आदि से डरता है। इस खतरे का सबसे खतरनाक चेहरा एक भ्रष्ट राजनेता और एक भ्रष्ट नौकरशाह के बीच संदिग्ध गठजोड़ में परिलक्षित होता है। जब कानून बनाने वाले बेखौफ होकर कानून तोड़ने वाले बन जाएंगे तो देश को कौन बचाएगा? भ्रष्टाचार के लिए जिम्मेदार कई कारक हैं। एक, जाति और भाई-भतीजावाद संरक्षण के वितरण का आधार बन गया है।

दो, सामान्य वित्तीय हित के साथ, कारण के बजाय भावना राजनीति को निर्देशित करती है। तीसरा, समाज सही या गलत किसी भी तरीके से धन संग्रह को सहन करता है। और अंत में, अपने परिवार के प्रति अत्यधिक लगाव व्यक्ति को अक्सर यह महसूस कराता है कि उसे बच्चों और पोते-पोतियों के लिए पर्याप्त कमाई करनी है।

यदि लोकतंत्र को जीवित रहना है, तो सार्वजनिक जीवन में मध्यम वर्ग के सत्यनिष्ठा मूल्य को कायम रखना होगा। यदि हम में से प्रत्येक रिश्वत देने से इंकार करता है, चाहे छोटे, भ्रष्ट अधिकारियों को अंततः पीछे हटना होगा और इस दुष्चक्र को तोड़ा जा सकता है।

यह संभव है और हम कर सकते हैं।
