WOMEN: A NOBLE CREATION OF GOD.

(1)Woman, the so called fair sex is the noblest creation of God. Pious, polite, submissive, God fearing and self-sacrificing, this superb creation of God has a major role to play on this earth Woman has rightly been eulogised by all the great men of all ages and all regions.

(2) During the Rig Vedic period, her status was on a par with men but she gained great respect and reverence. No Yajna, no prayer, no ceremony was considered complete without her. Sita and Gargi have epitomised the role of women in socio-economic affairs of the Indian society in ancient times.

(3) But with the advent of Muslim rule in India, the condition of women became pitiable. She became to be treated as a commodity and lost her status as well as respect.

(4)The two world wars and the India's struggle for independence however gave a new dimension to the liberation movement of women. The social reformers raised their voice against child marriage, purdah system and other social evils. In modern times, the woman is at par with men She enjoys all rights and privileges and is proceeding in all fields. Today she is a doctor, an engineer, a lawyer, an architect, a pilot, a politician, a consultant and an astronomer. In India Mother Teresa, Smt. Indira Gandhi, Kiran Bedi, Bachendri Pal have proved beacon lights, showing many other women the path that can be followed to success and progress. The woman power is attaining greater heights day by day superficially but see the reality.

(5) Prenatal medical tests are being increasingly resorted to. Majority of women still remain poor, deprived and illiterate. Young brides are still kept like hostages. The young brides are being pestered daily for bringing more and more dowry. If they do not fulfil the demand of in-laws, they have to hear sarcastic remarks so many times that they pour Kerosene oil on their bodies and set themselves ablaze. Crimes like child rape, prostitution, incest, abduction and dowry deaths are spine chilling. In a male dominated macho, it is difficult to make an objective evaluation of women's place in society. No doubt tall claims are made, but the women still remain vulnerable to man's exploitation. They are still puppets working as per the wishes of their masters. The bitter reality is that woman has not come a long way but has to rise, revolt and shake herself anew to get rid of all social evils and to emerge aS a power, a super power, an enviable power.

(३) लेकिन भारत में मुस्लिम शासन के आगमन के साथ, महिलाओं की स्थिति दयनीय हो गई। उसे एक वस्तु के रूप में माना जाने लगा और उसने अपना दर्जा और सम्मान भी खो दिया। हालांकि दो विश्व युद्धों और भारत के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम ने महिलाओं के मुक्ति आंदोलन को एक नया आयाम दिया। समाज सुधारकों ने बाल विवाह, पर्दा प्रथा और अन्य सामाजिक बुराइयों के खिलाफ आवाज उठाई। आधुनिक समय में स्त्री पुरुषों के समान है, उसे सभी अधिकार और विशेषाधिकार प्राप्त हैं और वह सभी क्षेत्रों में आगे बढ़ रही है। आज वह एक डॉक्टर, इंजीनियर, वकील, आर्किटेक्ट, पायलट, राजनेता, सलाहकार और खगोलशास्त्री हैं। भारत में मदर टेरेसा, श्रीमती। इंदिरा गांधी, किरण बेदी, बछेंद्री पाल ने कई अन्य महिलाओं को वह रास्ता दिखाया है, जिस पर चलकर सफलता और प्रगति की जा सकती है। नारी शक्ति सतही तौर पर दिन-ब-दिन नई ऊंचाईयों को छू रही है लेकिन हकीकत देखिए।

(५) प्रसवपूर्व चिकित्सा परीक्षणों का तेजी से सहारा लिया जा रहा है। अधिकांश महिलाएं अभी भी गरीब, वंचित और निरक्षर हैं। युवा दुल्हनों को आज भी बंधकों की तरह रखा जाता है। अधिक से अधिक दहेज लाने के लिए युवा दुल्हनों को प्रतिदिन प्रताड़ित किया जा रहा है। ससुराल वालों की मांग पूरी न करने पर उन्हें कई बार व्यंग्यात्मक टिप्पणी सुननी पड़ती है कि वे अपने शरीर पर मिट्टी का तेल डालकर आग लगा लेते हैं। बाल बलात्कार, वेश्यावृत्ति, अनाचार, अपहरण और दहेज हत्या जैसे अपराध रीढ़ की हड्डी को झकझोरने वाले हैं।

पुरुष प्रधान माचो में समाज में महिलाओं के स्थान का वस्तुपरक मूल्यांकन करना कठिन होता है। बेशक बड़े-बड़े दावे किए जाते हैं, लेकिन महिलाएं अभी भी पुरुषों के शोषण की चपेट में हैं। वे अभी भी अपने स्वामी की इच्छा के अनुसार काम करने वाली कठपुतली हैं। कड़वी सच्चाई यह है कि नारी को अभी लंबा सफर तय नहीं करना है, लेकिन सभी सामाजिक बुराइयों से छुटकारा पाने और एक शक्ति, एक महाशक्ति, एक ईर्ष्यालु शक्ति के रूप में उभरने के लिए उसे उठना, विद्रोह करना और खुद को हिलाना है।
